KOFORIDUA, Friday, October 16, 2026 — The second coming of Hon. Bismark Tawiah Boateng, popularly known as Otafrigya, to the contest for the Eastern Regional Chairmanship of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has gathered momentum following his successful vetting and the selection of Number 2 (#2) on the ballot paper ahead of the party’s upcoming regional internal elections.

The former Eastern Regional Chairman has once again presented himself for the position, seeking another opportunity to lead the party’s regional administration. His return to the race marks a new chapter in his political journey within the NDC, as the party prepares for an important phase of its internal reorganisation.

On Friday, October 16, 2026, Hon. Bismark Tawiah Boateng successfully completed the vetting process, clearing an important stage in his quest to return to the regional chairmanship. Following the exercise, Otafrigya picked ballot number two, the number that will identify him on the ballot paper during the election.

One of the day’s most remarkable moments was the overwhelming reception that greeted his arrival at Residence in Koforidua at exactly 9:30 a.m. A large crowd of supporters and well-wishers gathered to welcome the former Regional Chairman, creating an atmosphere filled with enthusiasm, excitement and solidarity.

The impressive turnout added significance to his return, with supporters making their presence felt as he took another step towards contesting for the position. The reception was a notable moment for his campaign and demonstrated the enthusiasm among those who came out to welcome him.

For his supporters, the scene in Koforidua was an encouraging start to what promises to be a closely watched internal contest. They will be hoping that the enthusiasm witnessed during his arrival translates into support at the polls. Nevertheless, the size of a welcoming crowd does not, by itself, determine the outcome of an election, which will ultimately be decided by the eligible delegates.

Otafrigya’s return to the chairmanship race also brings his previous experience as Eastern Regional Chairman into focus. Having occupied the position before, his renewed bid places his leadership record, relationships within the party and vision for the region’s political organisation at the centre of the upcoming contest.

The Eastern Regional Chairmanship is an important position within the NDC’s organisational structure. The regional chairman plays a significant role in coordinating party activities, strengthening grassroots structures, promoting unity among members and supporting mobilisation efforts across constituencies and branches. As the internal elections approach, delegates will have the responsibility of assessing the candidates and deciding who should lead the party in the region.

The selection of ballot number two adds another defining moment to Otafrigya’s return. For his supporters, the number will serve as his identity on the ballot paper as they prepare for the campaign ahead. Their immediate task will be to engage delegates, communicate his vision and build support throughout the region.

The expression “the second coming of Otafrigya” therefore captures the significance of his return to a position he previously occupied. It represents another attempt by the former Regional Chairman to secure the confidence of delegates and contribute to the future direction of the NDC in the Eastern Region.

With the vetting successfully completed, ballot number two secured and an enthusiastic reception in Koforidua, Hon. Bismark Tawiah Boateng has officially advanced his bid to return to the regional chairmanship. His supporters are optimistic about the journey ahead, while the final verdict remains in the hands of the delegates.

As the contest unfolds, attention will increasingly focus on the candidates, their engagement with the party’s grassroots and the choices delegates will make at the polls.

OTAFRIGYA IS BACK! THE SECOND COMING HAS BEGUN.
