PRESS RELEASE: CANCEL THE FRAUDULENT ELECTIONS AND CALL FOR RE-RUN: AKWATEAKWASO ELECTORAL AREA 10-01-2024
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) - Akropong Constituency expresses profound concern over the recent electoral irregularities observed during the runoff of the assembly member elections at the Tadankro L/A Primary School Polling Station within the Akwatiakwaso electoral area.
Upon careful scrutiny and inspection, a high level of over-voting and vote stuffing in favor of the second candidate, sponsored by the ruling NPP party and government, has been identified. We wish to bring to the attention of the public and relevant authorities the following irregularities amounting to election fraud at the Tadankro L/A Primary School (E072001) on the 9th January 2024:
1. Fake EC Stamps and Inconsistent Ink Colours: Fifteen (15) ballot papers were discovered with counterfeit EC stamps, differing ink colors, and distinct ballot serial numbers, all cast in favor of the second candidate.
2. Discrepancy in ballot numbers: The total number of ballot papers (117) exceeded the verified number of voters (102), indicating a clear discrepancy and manipulation of the electoral process.
Despite protests and calls for recounting at the other two polling stations: AKWATEAKWASO L/A Primary School (E072001) and Okotom P/S (E072003), EC officials and security personnel refused, raising serious concerns about the transparency and integrity of the electoral process.
This incident amounts to a voting coup, undermining the will of the good people of Akwateakwaso electoral area. As a party of interest, the NDC Akropong Constituency will not only reject these manipulated results but also take the following actions:
1. Investigation and Examination: We call on all stakeholders to commit to a thorough independent investigation of these irregularities, gathering evidence to expose the extent of the manipulation and all persons and institutions involved. We are ready to provide hard core evidence and information to aid in correcting this daylight election rigging supervised by the Municipal Director of the Electoral Commission.
2. Release of Statement: We will release a comprehensive statement in the shortest possible time, detailing our findings and expressing our unequivocal condemnation of this injustice and election rigging exhibited and condoned by the Municipal Director of the EC, Mr. Solomon Algaga. We are of the conviction that Mr. Solomon Algaga is an accomplice in this election fraud as he has been avoiding calls from the Akropong NDC Constituency chairman and other stakeholders for a resolution to this voting crime. He has further instructed his subordinates not to receive any letter at the office.
We call on all peace-loving citizens, Corporate Social Organizations, the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission of Ghana, among other institutions who uphold the principles of constitutional democracy to take a keen interest in this matter. Furthermore, we urge stakeholders within the political industry to address this blatant violation of the democratic process.
Our commitment to a fair and transparent electoral system remains unwavering, and we will persist in our pursuit of justice for the people of Akwateakwaso electoral area and Akropong Constituency in general.
End.
