This morning, Monday, 9th September 2024, Hon. John Evans Kumordzi, the incoming Member of Parliament for Akuapem North, made a significant stop at Mamfe to engage with the Mamfe Tailors and Dressmaker Association. The meeting was a critical opportunity for Hon. Kumordzi to hear firsthand the concerns of local artisans who have felt let down by the current government.

During the discussion, members of the association expressed their deep disappointment, pointing out the lack of supportive policies from the current administration that could boost their businesses. They highlighted the challenges they face, including the absence of governmental initiatives to help the tailoring and dressmaking industry thrive.

In response to their concerns, Hon. John Evans Kumordzi took immediate action by donating a substantial sum of money to the association. This contribution is aimed at providing immediate relief and support to the association members. Additionally, Hon. Kumordzi promised to equip the association with industrious sewing machines, a gesture that aims to elevate their businesses to new heights and help them achieve their aspirations.

Beyond immediate support, Hon. Kumordzi took the opportunity to outline future plans under the NDC’s leadership. He introduced the MO-NE-YO insurance scheme policy, a key initiative from H.E. John Dramani Mahama that the NDC plans to implement upon returning to office. This policy is designed to secure the informal sector, providing tailors, dressmakers, and other artisans with the opportunity to receive pension allowances when they retire. This policy promises to bring long-term security and dignity to those in the informal sector, ensuring they have the financial stability they deserve after years of hard work.

Hon. Kumordzi was accompanied by several dignitaries, including Constituency Secretary Isaac Batsa Hamillin, Constituency Organiser Ernest Adom Dikoh, and Constituency Deputy Youth Organiser George Oduro Junior Their presence reinforced the importance of this engagement and the NDC’s commitment to uplifting local businesses.

Hon. Kumordzi’s visit and his commitments were met with great appreciation by the Mamfe Tailors and Dressmaker Association. His promises reflect a broader vision of support and growth for the informal sector, reaffirming his commitment to uplifting local businesses and ensuring they have the tools and policies needed to succeed.
