John Evans Kumordzi Files Nomination Forms, Raises Concerns Over Electoral Irregularities in Akuapem North

By Edwin Kobina Amoquandoh

This morning, Hon. John Evans Kumordzi, who is poised to become the Member of Parliament for Akuapem North on January 7th, 2025, took a significant step in his political journey by filing his nomination forms at the Electoral Commission (EC) District Office in Akropong. Accompanying him were key figures from the constituency, including Vice Chairman Baba Tunde, Communications Officer Bawa Aminu Sumaila, Deputy Communications Officer Jacob Ganyo, and Akropong Zonal Coordinator Fresky, all showing their support as Kumordzi formalized his candidacy.

After submitting his forms, Kumordzi addressed the media, expressing deep concerns over what he described as serious anomalies within the EC's operations in Akuapem North under the supervision of Solomon Algaga. He specifically highlighted the issue of an alleged over-voting in the Akwatiakwaso electoral area during the district assembly elections, an irregularity that, according to him, was ignored by the EC.

Kumordzi also voiced his displeasure over the  registration of minors, allegedly orchestrated by the NPP during the recent limited registration exercise, which he claimed occurred under Algaga's watch. He further criticized the EC for its alleged failure to clean the voter register of so-called "ghost names," which he believes could compromise the integrity of the upcoming elections.

In his remarks, Kumordzi stressed the importance of addressing these issues to ensure that the December 7th, 2024 elections in Akuapem North are free and fair. He urged Solomon Algaga and the EC to take more proactive measures to safeguard the electoral process, emphasizing that the credibility of the elections depends on the Commission's ability to manage these challenges effectively.

As the election date approaches, Kumordzi’s concerns reflect a broader demand for transparency and fairness in the electoral process, signaling that the upcoming polls in Akuapem North will be closely watched by all stakeholders. His commitment to electoral integrity remains a central theme of his campaign as he seeks to represent his constituency in Parliament.
