By Edwin Kobina Amoquandoh
On Tuesday, October 22, 2024, the Eastern Regional Executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) brought their campaign to the Akropong Constituency, making a significant stop at Korkormu, in the Otwetiri/Korkormu ward. Known as one of the party's most formidable vote baskets in the Eastern Region, Korkormu once again demonstrated its unwavering support for the NDC, setting the stage for what promises to be a landslide victory in the area.
As early as 4:00 p.m., the grounds at Korkormu were meticulously prepared by the local organizing team. Spearheaded by the Zonal Coordinator, Comrade Azaar, and the Assembly member for the Otwetiri/Korkormu ward, Hon. Ahmed Agbenyadzi, along with the Ward Coordinator of Otwetiri/Korkormu, Edwin Kobina Amoquandoh, they ensured the community engagement would proceed smoothly. The energetic atmosphere was further charged by the Korkormu JAMA group, led by the Branch Youth Organizer, Ayuba Abass. Their rhythmic songs and chants heightened the anticipation of both locals and dignitaries.
By 4:30 p.m., the stage was set with the arrival of key constituency executives, including Constituency Chairman Daniel Awere, Secretary and his Deputy, Isaac Batsa Hamillin and Samuel Janus, Organiser Ernest Adom Dikoh, Youth Organiser Hon. Ahmed Agbenyadzi, and his Deputy George Oduro Junior. The presence of Women Organiser Jane Okyerewa Addo, her Deputy Praise Ababio Fiati, Deputy Treasurer Kingsford Kalefe were notable, and several constituency executives the like of Mr. Odoom. etc…alongside seasoned party members like former Constituency Organiser, Hon. Gibrine Anagli, Ing. Isaac Amartey, etc… The parliamentary candidate on the NDC ticket for Akuapem North, Hon. John Evans Kumordzi, also graced the occasion, reaffirming his commitment to the people of Korkormu.
As the Korkormu elders offered an opening prayer, it became clear that this was more than just a political rally—it was a reaffirmation of the community’s deep-rooted loyalty to the NDC. The local leadership did well to energize the base as the moment everyone had been waiting for arrived—the appearance of the Eastern Regional Battalion. Led by Regional Chairman Dr. Mark-Oliver Kevor, their entrance was nothing short of electrifying, as the streets were flooded with enthusiastic party faithfuls, eager to welcome the regional team.
However, the most memorable and enjoyable moment of the evening was when the man who had initially introduced the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to Korkormu publicly declared his decision to cross over to the NDC. His symbolic “baptism” by Regional Chairman Dr. Mark-Oliver Kevor was met with thunderous applause and cheers from the gathered crowd. The defection was a powerful statement, reinforcing the NDC’s dominance in the area and further demoralizing the NPP’s efforts.
Korkormu’s strategic significance to the NDC cannot be overstated. The overwhelming turnout
and the palpable energy of the attendees served as a testament to the community’s loyalty to the party. For decades, Korkormu has stood as a bulwark of NDC votes in the Eastern Region, and this event only cemented that legacy. As the dust settles, one thing is certain: the people of Korkormu are ready to deliver an unprecedented 99.9% of their votes to the NDC in the upcoming elections.
With a charged and motivated base, the NDC’s prospects in the Akropong Constituency, and particularly in Korkormu, look brighter than ever. The engagement marked a pivotal moment in the party’s regional strategy, ensuring that Korkormu remains a cornerstone of their electoral ambitions.
