Thursday, May 15, 2025, will go down as a remarkable day in the Akuapem North Municipality, as Hon. John Evans Kumordzi was officially confirmed as the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE). The confirmation took place at the Municipal Assembly Hall in Akropong amidst intense political activity and public interest.

The proceedings began at exactly 1:00 PM, with 48 assembly members comprising 32 elected and 16 government appointees present to cast their votes. As required by the Local Government Act, the nominee needed to secure at least two-thirds majority, translating to 32 votes, for confirmation.

The initial round of voting stirred tension within the hall after the counting agents mistakenly announced the results, sparking murmurs and visible unease among attendees. The first round tallied 30 votes in favor of Hon. Kumordzi and 18 against — falling short of the required threshold.

Following consultations, a recount was called, and this time, Hon. Kumordzi successfully garnered the crucial 32 votes needed for confirmation. The atmosphere quickly shifted from suspense to celebration as his supporters erupted in cheers.

The confirmation ceremony was subsequently officiated by the Eastern Regional Minister, HonRita Akosua Adjei Awatey, who administered the oath of office. She urged the newly confirmed MCE to prioritize development and unity within the municipality, emphasizing the need to foster collaboration among all stakeholders.

The event drew an impressive crowd, including the entire Akuapem North constituency executive body, as well as notable party members and dignitaries from neighboring constituencies such as Okere. The overwhelming show of support underscored the significance of the occasion and the expectations placed on the new MCE.

Hon. Kumordzi, in his acceptance remarks, expressed gratitude to the assembly members and all who supported his nomination. He pledged to work diligently to accelerate development and improve the livelihoods of the people of Akuapem North.

Congratulations to Hon. John Evans Kumordzi on his new appointment. The people of Akuapem North look forward to a tenure marked by progress and unity.
